Being a Freshman
Freshman Class 2022-2023
Being a freshman in high school is not as scary as it sounds. When you’re younger, high school under all the older kids sounds scary. On the contrary, it's not scary, but it's almost welcoming. "It's very overwhelming, but incredible at the same time. I always looked up to high schoolers, but now I am one," says Micah Henry, a freshman student. In your earlier school years, grades you get on assignments matter a lot. High school is different. If you do your work, participate and provide passing grades, you will be able to pass easily. "Being a freshman is like a fresh start. I can forget about the past and focus strongly on the future to pursue my goals. Starting high school is a big part of starting my future," says Aubree Collins, another freshman student.
Within this past week of high school, I have realized that it is not as scary as I made it out to be in middle school. It is almost quite the opposite. Most people think that a higher age gives you more restrictions, but that is not true. Age gives you freedom, and that is what is provided in high school. There is much more freedom than there was in middle school, even just involving phones in school. We are allowed to have them out at lunch, which I enjoy. "Being a freshman is like being a fish in a new pond," says Micah Anderson. He means that you aren't smaller than everyone else, it is just a new environment.
