Meet High School Chemistry Teacher Mrs. Maas
Mrs. Maas went to college at Bradley University, and she majored in Chemistry and Education. She then went on to Southwest Baptist University through Hannibal-LaGrange college and got her Master’s in Education. At first Mrs. Maas wasn’t planning on becoming a teacher. She started out as a Bio-Pre-Med Major and then switched to Chemistry Pre-Med, but then she realized that she liked to help with her fellow students, and she was good at it, so she decided to teach. Outside of school she loves to teach group exercise classes and take fitness classes. Fitness has become a big part of her everyday life. She loves to fish and do outdoor games and activities. The reason why she chose to teach high school is because the students learn to think for themselves, and she also loves seeing them come out of their shells and blossom into the adults they can become. Mrs. Maas says the best thing about teaching in her opinion is the kids because she meets so many cool young people and they keep her young. She has always planned to teach the subject that she teaches because she loves chemistry. Mrs. Mass has a 20-year-old daughter and a soon to be 18-year-old and the family tradition she does is go on vacation because she wants to teach her kids that there is a big world out there that’s just waiting to be explored and conquered. No dream is too big. She has been teaching for twenty five years and twenty one of those are in Brown County. She would want to go on vacation at the beach anywhere. If Mrs. Maas wasn’t teaching, she would own a coffee shop on a beach. She first taught in Vidalia, GA, and 3 years at Camp Point Central High School. One thing she would say to encourage her kids would be just to shine bright and what she would tell her students is to push yourself and find the answers on your own and find you resources. If she had three wishes she would give one wish away to each of her children and wish for a happy and healthy life. Her favorite season is fall because she likes the changing of the leaves and the cool crisp air. She said she could do without the harvest dust. Her favorite sports are football for boys, and volleyball for girls. The only pet she has is a 12-year-old silky terrier named Rudy. Her favorite animals though are horses because they are majestic. Her favorite books are the Matched series, her favorite movies is The Goonies, and her favorite song is "Can’t Stop the Feeling" by Justin Timberlake.
